Victoria Midwife Welcomes Her Baby
“The week our baby was born was beautiful and sunny. I was lucky in so many ways: I had a smooth pregnancy, went into labour at my due date, had a healthy and growing baby, and had a wonderful support team of my partner, midwives, family, friends and work colleagues. My labour was very long, but I was able to spend almost all of it in our own home, which was very important to me. I felt safe and happy. I loved getting the chance to feel my body working through labour. I am a midwife, and after attending more than 600 births, it was very interesting to feel contractions myself! I was able to use what I'd learned from so many other women before me to help myself through the birth. “
“ After getting stuck at 9cm for hours, we decided to go into the hospital. We received excellent care there, and just a few hours later I was able to push my baby's head out into my hands. My partner and our midwife helped deliver the rest of our baby up onto my chest, where he cried right away. That moment was more incredible than I could have ever imagined. After 33 hours of hard work and years looking forward to welcoming my own baby, I couldn't believe I was holding him in my arms. I can't think of a more beautiful experience and will forever be grateful to the people who helped support our new family.. "
