I don't have great memories from my childhood family photo days... Sleeping with rollers in, sitting for what seemed like hours getting my hair done, crammed into an itchy, scratchy dress, and uncomfortable leotards, always running late, so much stress. Then arriving at the studio with two frustrated parents, and having someone tell us all to “Smile”… complete misery. And you know, those posed photos were always put up on the wall to collect dust, never to be looked at again. The photos that I cherish? They are the ones taken by friends and family- the candid shots of kids playing, adults laughing and pets getting into trouble. The real moments, the ones that bring a smile to your face when you flip through the album. The Everyday moments. When I began my journey as a photographer, I knew, right from the start that I wanted to document real life. I knew that I didn’t want to set up fake scenarios and force fake smiles. I wanted my work to represent who my clients really are. I want the families that I photograph to see the beauty in the ordinary because that is life. Your life. And all of these stages and phases are worth remembering. I can’t wait to photograph all the love, the laughter, the tears and even the tantrums, the tender moments, the playful ones and all the mundane, quiet in-between. The Good: *I am sensitive, empathetic and I care for my clients deeply. *I am a calm and quiet introvert, who loves to immerse myself in the chaos of others. *I have repaired and raised hundreds of orphaned and injured wild critters. *I am honest, upfront and probably the least judgmental person you will meet. *I love getting dirty outside- hikes, garden, playing with kids… there seems to be a positive correlation between level of mess and level of fun. *I do not take downtime and rarely relax. The Bad: *I tend to be a bit quiet and boring at big gatherings. *I spend a ridiculous amount of time in pyjamas. *My hair is in a messy bun about 98% of the time. *I may or may not treat my dogs like little furry children and they may or may not have their own Instagram account. *I do not take downtime and rarely relax. The Ugly: *I am a perfectionist and sometimes that stops me from doing projects (like writing bios…) *I have an affinity for pigeons, spiders and snakes. *I don’t get excited about purses, shoes or jewelry.
